This DAC circuit features user-selectable profiles for either "sharp" (flat up to 20 kHz) or "slow" (gradual) high frequency rolloff, to suit differing source material and user preferences. The Onkyo DX-7555 features a super-precision clock circuit which has a tolerance of just +/- 1.5 ppm (typical tolerance values are about 50 ppm,) for remarkably low jitter and high-fidelity performance. The only thing I didn't like was that the power cord wasn't removable. I'm very happy so far so anybody looking for a sub $1000 CD player should take a look at this unit. The sound was very good right out of the box and the one noticeable difference between the Onkyo and the Marantz was the bass was better from the Onkyo. I played briefly with the first two and really didn't notice much difference.
It has a two position analog filter slope (sharp or shallow), the clock can be slightly adjusted (not sure what the units are) and you can switch the polarity of the analog output. It's a large and sturdy unit (about 18 pounds) and has a Wolfson DAC in it. The new Onkyo looked interesting and The Absolute Sound had a positive review in a recent issue so I decided to take a chance on it. As I said in another thread, my Marantz SA8260 had started to give me problems so I decided to look for an inexpensive CD player. I just wanted to say a few things about the new Onkyo DX-7555 CD player that I bought last week.
